4 DAYS IN UBUD – PHOTO & VIDEO DIARY

When we only have 4 days in Bali, and more precisely on Ubud in the center of the island of Bali, we enjoy as much as we can but we must organize the visits in order to see the places that are worth it and not getting scammed like tourists (even if that’s what we were!).
To start, don’t hesitate to rent a driver for the whole day, it is really worth it and it is really cheap – especially if you think about the practical advantages (and air conditioning!) – and they know the roads so you don’t bother with a map or with google maps.
Obviously, they are going to ask you an astronomical price but don’t hesitate to bargain to reduce it. You can downright reduce the price down from 30% to 40% and I really don’t exaggerate by telling you that! Even taxis for a simple race don’t hesitate to earn money for the entire day on the back of tourists!
Once you have your driver, it is very important to already have a clear idea of what to do in such a short time if you want to enjoy a maximum on the spot. So, in Bali, you are going to pay every visit, even if it’s only a walk in the middle of the jungle, but don’t worry, they are very cheap prices, but you have to think about it.
Here is a small list of places we visited during these four days and that hopefully, if you plan to go there, can help you to plan your trip.

TIRTA EMPUL TEMPLE

One of the most beautiful temples we visited on Ubud. The place is incredible and there is a palpable mystical atmosphere. We were able to attend a purification ceremony in the sacred baths. It is a spiritual place and the Balinese try to come at least once a year, the trip is well worth it. As tourists, we also have the right to perform the ceremony while respecting certain customs. The ideal if you want to enjoy the moment is to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds of tourists!

UBUD SWING

The tourist attraction at will! Paying for the swing is inconceivable for us European, yet the experience (overpriced as it is about 20.- CHF) is worth it, yes, really, and not just to have an incredible picture to post on Instagram.
The feeling of flying over the jungle is incredible. Certainly, at the first swing, your heart beats increase but soon you start to feel very well and enjoy the show as a 7-year-old child.

UBUD ART MARKET

In the centre of Ubud, there is the market, called the Art market. It’s a market where they sell a bit of everything, from local crafts (still need to be sure it’s not made in China…) to food, specifically fruit. Not a very spectacular market, but to appreciate why not in the late afternoon. What attracted me the most during this visit was to sneak through the streets and discover the magnificent pavilions of each house, each one with its own private temple.
Regarding the market, if you smell something strange, don’t worry, this is just a fruit called durian. It’s amazing the horrible smell it gives off! And if you are brave enough, feel free to taste it.

TAGENUNGAN WATERFALL

This waterfall nestled in the middle of a mountain appears at first glance THE place to visit. After a descent of stairs of about fifteen minutes, you arrive down the waterfall and there you feel so much disappointed to see so many tourists! Thus, the water is not crystal clear, it is very messy, in short, if we had known all this before going down we would have avoided paying the entrance (any visit is paying, must be said!). And we would have avoided lugging around with our bathing suits and our towels all day for this visit, and especially we would have avoided climbing the stairs and aches the next day. Basically, this waterfall is not the most beautiful in Ubud, don’t go there because for sure there are some other beautiful waterfalls.

THE MONKEY FOREST

We were looking forward to visiting this Monkey Forest and I highly recommend it.
There are monkeys everywhere and they have no embarrassment to come beside you, and even to climb over your shoulders!
At the entrance, there are people who sell bananas for you to make a photo, but don’t be fooled because the monkeys will come anyway near you without any complex while you walk.

CAMPUHAN UBUD

The trek to Campuhan! Yes! I said the trek (LOL)! I would say that it is more a beautiful (and long) walk than a trek but anyway this walk in the middle of the jungle, crossing a few villages, is to be done in the morning in order to avoid suffering from the heat and the sun.
The view is here and there very nice and for our part, we had a good time, even though it was very hot.

TAGALALANG RICE TERRACE

You have to go there absolutely because it is a view that you don’t see every day. The place is very beautiful and walking in the middle of the rice fields, crossing the working persons, is really an experience that remains in my memory. During the walk, you cross some tolls (not very expensive) apparently to financially help their maintenance, it’s like that in Bali, any visit is paying. The landscape is magnificent and moving because it testifies to the efforts of man to tame nature.

GUNUNG KAWI SEBATU TEMPLE

This gigantic temple, nestled at the foot of the rice fields is very beautiful. Unfortunately, you are going to be harassed by the sellers of sarongs (kind of pareo) that you must wear as soon as you enter a temple. The trick to know is that in every temple you visit in Bali they lend you the sarong at the entrance.
The temple is incredible because it is all carved in stone.
We were there at the end of the day and could attend a ceremony, a moment suspended in time that we will never forget.
